Whether Retrenchment Compensation will attract Income Tax ?

Dear All, Please note that ' Retrenchment Compensation' is exempt from income tax under section 10(10B) of the Income Tax Act, 1961 to the extent of lesser of the following amounts -  (a) INR 5,00,000  is the maximum limit notified by the Central Government vide Notification Number 10969 [F.No. 200/21/97 – IT (A-1) dated. 25th June1999 ; or (b)  Amount calculated u/s 25F(b) of the Industrial Dispute Act.
