ESIC - Eligibility of medical benefit and sickness benefit to family members of ESI insured person

It is one of the important plus point under ESI that the medical benefit which can also be termed as medical treatment in the dispensary and hospital will be available and provided from the date of employment of insured person to himself /herself along with family members of the insured person.

But to be noted that under this members of the family will not get sickness benefit, this is because sickness benefit is cash benefit and only provided to the insured person for the loss of salary during the period of sickness.

Further, to get medical treatment, the insured person’s family comprises of the following:

1)      Spouse
2)      Minor legitimate or adopted child who dependent upon the insured person
3)      Child who is fully dependent on the incomes of insured person and who is –
a.       receiving education, till he or she attains the age of 21 years
b.      an unmarried daughter
4)      Disable child – physical, accidental or mental – so long as the disability persists
5)      Dependent parents

Hope this small write up will give insight about pertained subject.
